Project manager / Media Literacy Coordinator

Background
HELVETAS is the largest Swiss nongovernmental organization with a dual mandate for long term development and humanitarian response. It has been present in Moldova since 2018 implementing projects in the field of market systems development in the field of agriculture.
Following the crisis in Ukraine, HELVETAS initiated emergency assistance for Moldovan families hosting refugees from Ukraine.  We are currently reinforcing our operational presence to build up a comprehensive response to the current crisis.

Contract:                  Local (full-time)
Starting period:       September 2022
Duration:                  6 months, renewable (upon donor’s approval)
Duty Station:           Chisianu, Moldova
 
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Supporting the education partnership with facilitation and coordination of all internal processes to ensure well planned, timely, coordinated and coherent partnership management.
  • Ensuring mutual and system-based capacity development throughout the project and beyond.
  • Supporting on curriculum development of the media literacy project and facilitation of the workshop-style delivery.
  • Coordinating and networking with the relevant stakeholders. 

Responsibilities
In close coordination with the Emergency Programme Coordinator:

  • Leads on the development, review and signature of Partnership Agreements, MoUs and amendments.
  • Leads on partnership start-up workshop planning, preparation and coordination.
  • Defines monitoring procedures.
  • Coordinates and facilitate close-out meetings with partners and document lessons learned.

In close coordination with the Emergency Programme Coordinator:

  • Leading the overall capacity assessment process, as well as capacity building plans, ensuring partners have the tools and support to deliver on projects, strategy and services for children in Moldova
  • Building and promoting a culture, attitudes, and values conducive to collaborative partnerships among the team, based on a clear and shared understanding of HSI's role and approach, and core partnership principle
  • Ensures that HSI’s global safeguarding, Gender Social Equity policies are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and HSI’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures

In close coordination with the Emergency Programme Coordinator and implementing partner agency :

  • Supports on the media literacy project structure in line with the donor-approved proposal.
  • Helps in drafting each media literacy module and helps in conceptualising the most attractive methodology.
  • Takes part in revisions of the modules.
  • Participates in majority of workshops, provides constructive feedback to the facilitators and observes general interaction and participation of the youth.
  • Crosschecks all equipment is planned for to facilitate the youth group project work.

In close coordination with the Emergency Programme Coordinator:

  • Participates actively and regularly in relevant coordination meetings at national and regional levels.
  • Develops and maintain a strong and positive relationship with MoE, Child Protection Sub-Working Group, Inter-agency Refugee Education Working Group and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures HSI advocacy messages and perspectives of smaller organizations are reflected in the meetings agenda.
  • Shares all the relevant information with HSI colleagues.
  • Develops a wide network of international and national NGOs to ensure HSI’s operations in the country are relevant, well informed and address important gaps.

Requirements knowledge and skills

  • Academic qualifications in a related field such as education, pedagogy.
  • Completed courses in media literacy media education, innovative teaching approaches preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in project cycle management.
  • Excellent ability to write reports and draft tools and curriculum in English.
  • Excellent skills in problem solving and mediation.
  • Report drafting and review skills.
  • Good facilitation skills and ability to facilitate meetings and trainings.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Well-organized and structured workstyle.
  • Proactive personality with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible work attitude and ability to work independently within a small team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) 

Professional experience

  • At least 4-5 years of experience in one of the following fields:
    • Teacher, mentor/coach, educator
    • Demonstrated successful experience working with partners
    • Experience working on projects targeting adolescents and youth
  • Experience in (I)NGOs especially education-focused.
  • Ability to work well independently but also coordinate partnership workloads of staff not under your direct line management.
  • Team leadership and supervision experience and skills.
  • Experience in training internal staff and partner staff.
